Compendium: Ad's Class Codex

Hello y'all! I've made six different classes in my career making homebrew, five of them were made this past year! So I decided to gather them all up, polish them off and present them in this compendium! Each class has at least six subclasses, and plenty more stuff! I hope y'all enjoy!

Sorcerer: Storm King Heir

Hello all! I've been watching the Blood of Zeus anime that came out on Netflix and made this! One of my favorite aesthetics is storms and so I tend to make dnd stuff based around that powerset. Hope y'all enjoy!

Background: Mimic Experiment

Hello all! Here is my first ever attempt at a background! I wanted my first time making a background to be weird and unique, so what better than being a failed (or successful) experiment that evolved to permanently mimic a sentient, humanoid member of one of the races.

Monk: Way of Many Dragons

Hello all! Here is a new monk subclass for y'all! I really liked the idea of a monk subclass that dealt with switching stances and what better way to convey that than through the theme of dragons! Hope y'all enjoy!

Warlock: The Oceanic Commander

Hello y'all! I've been playing a lot of magic the gathering lately and have been learning how to adopt different design philosophy for my creative process in making homebrew content.

Fighter: Black Knight

Howdy y'all! I made this subclass way back in the day, like before my blog was a thing and recently managed to recover it and give it an overhaul to match my current skill level! This specific subclass has kind of stuck itself in the back of my head for the longest time due to the line "you have learned how to coat your weapons in pure treachery" which I'm really proud of and liked the imagery of it! I hope y'all enjoy this one!

Rogue: Wraith Detective

Been watching my boyfriend replay one of his favorite games, Murdered: Soul Suspect and got some inspiration from that! Also took some inspiration from Clue as well for this! Hope y'all enjoy!

Tabletop RPG: Treasure Trove

Since I've been playing an absolute ton of Sea of Thieves lately I thought I ought to try my hand at making fantastical pirate tabletop rpg! I used the same format I used for Tricks & Treats, just slightly modified. I really like the competitive aspect I created with this. Hope y'all enjoy!

Merchant: The Doctor

Hello all! Here's a subclass for my Merchant class! I figured a nonmagical healer would be a fun one to have for that class! Remember to properly play this subclass you need to offer exorbitant medical fees and have an insurance program that is also fairly expensive! Hope y'all enjoy!

Wednesday, July 8, 2020

Cleric: Blood Domain

I believe that this marks the third subclass I've created with a vampiric theme! The other two being the warlock's The Vampire Lord, and the druid's Circle of Blood. All three are fairly solid at bringing that vampiric oomph to the table that many seek to play! Hope y'all enjoy!

A very spur of the moment inspiration I had lead to the creation of this class! A class based around harnessing the magical effects of different runes. This makes four original class of my own creation under my own belt. The Dragonsoul, the Overlord, the Merchant, and now this! In addition to all that this marks the 100th post on this blog! Here's to many more! Hope y'all enjoy!

Kovaud Review: Compendium of Forgotten Secrets: Awakening

One of my all time favorite classes in 5th edition is the warlock. So when I came across the original Compendium of Forgotten Secrets on r/UnearthedArcana I was in awe. The lore and content for it was well made and I absolutely loved it, so when GenuineBeliever announced the Compendium of Forgotten Secrets: Awakening I just knew I had to get myself a physical copy of it. And that I did.
In this review I will be analyzing three main categories: Writing for flavor, lore, etc., Content for mechanics and such, and Presentation for art and layout!

The Compendium of Forgotten Secrets: Awakening or COFSA for short is a compendium of warlock options such as 17 new patrons known as Alrisen, new pact familiars, new eldritch invocations, new spells, new magic items, new subraces, and a new subclass for each Alrisen.

Writing: 10/10
William Hudson King is a fantastic writer. Each new Alrisen contains a lore section which helped to illustrate the personalities of each patron and helps develop how much and what type of influence they can have on a world. From the Serpent Empress who infiltrates and conquers worlds to the Storm Lord and how different cultures see the terrifying beast. The writing for this book is utterly amazing, it's like food for my writing brain.

Content: 10/10
Each of the 17 alrisen has a warlock subclass and a subclass for another class tied into it. The subclasses are well done along with everything else contained within the book! The spells in this book are really flavorful and well crafted with each spell containing a line of flavor that acts a ribbon such as for the spell Almighty Assault, the flavor for it says "And so the wrath of the righteous shall shatter mountains" which is very evocative.

Presentation: 10/10
The cover art and each piece of art for each of the Alrisen patrons is absolutely gorgeous. I found myself just admiring each piece and the vibrancy of their colors. Additionally, the books is excellently formatted and visually cared for. Whether it be placement of text or the splashes of color as if strokes of paint touched the pages, all of this culminating into an enjoyable visual design.

Kovaud's Rating: 10/10
"An absolutely gorgeous book that any gaming table should have!"

This is one of my absolute favorite books anyone in the homebrew community has ever created which is why I gave it a perfect score. You can purchase a PDF or physical copy of the Compendiumg of Forgotten Secrets: Awakening over at GenFantasyPress.com.

Kovaud Reviews: Dark Matter

My absolute favorite group of homebrew content creators is Middle Finger of Vecna or Mage Hand Press! They put out excellent content and larger scale projects. Today I'm going to be reviewing their book Dark Matter! This is the first time I've done a review of this sort so I hope it goes well! In this review I will be analyzing three main categories: Writing for flavor, lore, etc., Content for mechanics and such, and Presentation for art and layout!

Dark Matter is an expansion book for 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons that delves deeper into the sci-fi aspect of D&D always nibbling at its periphery. Adding tons of new rules, subclasses, a new class, new items, races, lore, monsters, and spaceships!

Writing: 9/10

The writing for this book is absolutely great! It's an enjoyable read if you just want to sit down and read through it. In the beginning of each chapter there are short stories from different denizens of the Verse'. Which are enjoyable to read and helps tell the reader more about the universe that this book sets out to introduce us to.

Content: 9/10

The content contained in this book is top notch. Really well balanced and excellent all around. The class is rock solid with its mechanics and each of the subclasses are well made. They each show how much work was put into making the final product that we get to see. They've even added new rules for spaceship combat which are really well designed. There is also a smaller ruleset dealing with the scale of ships and monsters in space in the form of the Mega size which comes with Mega damage and Mega health. One hitpoint of Mega health/damage is equivalent to 100 regular hitpoints.

Presentation: 10/10

I have to give it to the folks over at Mage Hand Press. They sure know how to pick out their artists. The art in this book is really well crafted and very evocative! Each piece helps give a closer glimpse into the world of Dark Matter. From the more broad chapter intro pieces to the individual pieces for monsters, items, and subclasses. Each bit of artwork is absolutely gorgeous! The book is also well formatted and the layout for the book is excellent!

Kovaud's Rating: 9.5/10
"Absolutely Essential For Every Roleplayers Shelf!"

You can get yourself a PDF or physical copy of Dark Matter at https://store.magehandpress.com/ and you can check out Mage Hand Press at https://mfov.magehandpress.com/
